Akai Hana

Name:Akai Hana Sushi & Coffee
Address:2206 N. Clark, Chicago, IL
Phone:(312) 528-1380
Review:" Don´t be put off by its name or the cafe-like appearance. This place might not be much for decor, but the sushi is out of this world. Fantastically fresh, aesthetically arranged, and mysteriously cheap(always a plus). Sushi combinations start at $5.00, although most of the more inclusive sets are $10.00. Combination sets include miso soup and your choice of green tea, azuki bean, or coffee ice cream. Sake and beer are served. Also served are a wide array of other dishes, from noodles to tempura to sukiyaki. Party platters are available. Dozo go enryo naku o meshiagari kudasai! See also their N. State location."

Review:"This is the best sushi restaurant in Chicago (and that says something because there is GREAT sushi in Chicago!). It's our neighborhood haunt, so we're a bit biased. Review:"We have been eating at Matsuya for over 20 years. It´s always been a favorite! The food is very good and moderately priced. The service is always excellent. The sushi is good, but not the best I ever ate. Lots of Japanese customers tells me it must be somewhat authentic. Best to go on week nights or before 5:30 pm on weekends, as it can get very busy."

Phone:(312) 267-9773
Opened:Every day: Lunch 11:30am - 2:30pm, Dinner 5pm - 11pm.
Review:"My wife and I eat here about twice a month, if not more often. If we could afford to eat it every day, we probably would. We are native Chicagoans and have tried more than ten sushi places in the area, including the new fancy Bucktown and River West haunts. When we try new places, we compare them to Midori, and, so far, none has removed this Northwest side Korean-owned suhsi haven from the top of our list. Midori has the best fishwhich leads to the best sushi and sashimi in the city. Service is inconsistent, but servers are always friendly. Highly, highly recommended. "

Sai Cafe

Name:Sai Cafe
Address:2010 Sheffield, Chicago, IlL 60614
Phone:(312) 472-8080
Reviews:"Excellent restaurant. Very fresh, well prepared, large portions. Somewhat pricey, sushi per piece ($2-4) or in combinations ($14-16, including miso soup, 6-8 migiri sushi, & California or Kappa maki). Difficult street parking in the area. Take out and delivery to the local area. Menu also has sashimi and assorted other Japenese dishes."
- Akira Yamaguchi
"First let me say that rating sushi or any other restaurant is somewhat relative. I don't expect the sushi in Illinois to be as good as that in Japan or even Hawaii. That being said, I do think that the Sai Cafe is one of the more consistent dining experience I have had. The have very attentive service, a nice atmosphere, strong standards and a hint of tradition based innovation. They have an excellent oyster shooter appetizer, enticing jellyfish and sea weed salads, a chef we nicknamed "the rollmaster" for his ability to deliver ever different and tasty hand rolls and they have what I would consider an extensive cold sake selection. With over 12 premium cold sakes it is definitely the broadest by far that I have run in to. As the other review stated, the parking in the area is tough(but they have valet) and I don't know any place in chicago that has a good restaurant that is easy to park. In short, it is one of my favorite sushi restaurants. Thanks for the site, I hope to hit some of your top picks in the coming year."

Sushi Wabi

Name:Sushi Wabi
Address:842 W. Randolph, Chicago, IL
Phone:(312) 563-1224
Opened:Daily: 5pm - Midnight
Review:"Although still reeling from it´s opening night party, Sushi Wabi must now contend with the renewed Bulls season as it´s limited seating promises to fill up at short notice. Executive Sushi Chef John Suh, formerly of local nightclub 56West, offers a tasty and lengthy menu. He first offered me an ´amuse´ of spicy mirugai nigiri, then a crispy and warm dragon roll, tempura philly roll, spicy shrimp in lettuce leaf maki, and the freshest, most delicious nigiri of suzuki, hamachi and big eye tuna. His brother, Daniel runs the hot kitchen and offers up classic Japanese fare. His Gyu-Negima was remarked by one native born Japanese to be ´the best I´d ever had´.Despite the recent hatchings of several new Sushi restaurants in Chicago, Sushi Wabi is the first in the hot new Randolph Street market area on the west side of the city, and the first to offer serious creative and culinary adaptations to the occasionally rote world of Sushi."
