Alex Sushi

Name:Alex Sushi
Address:Cort Adelers gt. 2, Oslo
Phone:22 43 99 99
Reviews:"Alex Sushi (recently opened) in Oslo has reportedly been voted best sushirestaurant outside Japan, I am fairly well experienced with sashimi, and I tend to agree. Do try it! "
- Odd Degnaes (omd@dark.no) [April 7th 2003]
"I have only recently begun to indulge in the wonderful world of sushi, but I have managed to try a couple of places in Oslo. Some things in life will make you alter your view on that particular categorie, such as the first time I tried real home made Italian ice cream. Ice cream was never the same again. Alex Sushi is that kind of place. Pure heaven. The service was very good and the owner, Alex, took time make every body feel welcome and special, even though the place is always (and was at the time) packed with Oslo's social elite. It costs but it is worth every cent. "

East Sushi & Noodles

Name:East Sushi & Noodles
Address:Frognerveien 8, Oslo
Phone:(0047) 22444-626
Fax:(0047) 22444-627
Reviews:"A very modern restaurant with trendy interior, and trendy waitresses with splits in their skirts. For 165,- NOK you get 10 rolls of sushi which can give you a hard time chewing. The rice is too ´wet´ and you wonder why you didn´t use your hard-earned cash somewhere else. What you pay for desert isn´t worth the money. Also try not to eat everything on your desertplate since some are for your eyes only. Try the noodles instead, but don´t blame me if you don´t like it, since I haven´t tried it myself, and I don´t think I´ll do in the future either."
- Khai (k.t.nguyen@econ.uio.no) [April 15th 1998]
"I found the food reasonably good, but the restaurant gets very crowded and busy, and customers are just a bit too trendy. Service is not at a "japanese" level, so if you're planning to eat out with your japanese guests - try somewhere else!"

"Good quality sushi, but you pay for it! Not cheap. Good service. will be here for some time to come. "
- Sushi lover in Oslo [April 3rd 2003]
"First floor with sushibar and some tables, basement with smoking and non-smoking tables. Actually we wanted to visit Alex Sushi, but it was closed for summerholidays (Many restaurants in Oslo are closed during the summer, so call ahead), so we went to Fuji. Two other customers assured us that they serve fine sushi. We got a table downstairs. The decor is not very exciting, but that doesn't matter, and you should avoid sitting to close to the kitchen because of the sound a little elevator to the first floor produces. We had beeftataki on a bed of thinly sliced onions with cucumber which was very nice as well as a sashimi zensai (small sashimi) with a fine assortment of ten different fishes (sake, hotate, mauro, akagai, shiromi, amaebi etc). The wakami tuna salad was okay, the tuna was a bit dry, but the taste was good. The dobin-mushi (soup in a teapot) did taste accordingly. For the maincourse we tried to be challenging which proofed to be a mistake. The first dish was an anglerfish an a sort of sweet-brown suace with an assortment of vegetables which you usually get in hotelrestaurants. It was a big portion but quite boring. The other dish were fishes in a tinfoil. As it sounded intersting we gave it a chance. It ended up being a piece of white fish, some salmon, some ebi plus the same vegetables as on the other dish cooked in an aluminiumfoil. No taste whatsoever, very dry. After several bites I refused to eat it, what a waste of fish. We asked the waitress to take it away and wanted to order some sushi instead (I intended to pay for everything, it was just boring food, but thats my problem). The waitress was very nervous and a Japanese manager came and asked us what happened. We told him we just didn't like it, and he was sort of reliefed. We told him we wanted to order some sushi. He said ok. When the sushi arrived we were told that the sushi was on the house ! The sushi was good, not first class, but fine. Unfortunately the maguro was a bit tasteless , but the rest was fine (Try the softshellcrab roll). So if you go there, avoid the 'european' sounding main dishes. Despite the strange main dishes which have nothing to do with Japanese kitchen Fuji is worthwhile going there. And besides the manager the waitresses are also doing a great job."

"Best sushi in Oslo, Norway."
- Ulf [June 23rd 2000]
"This is very probably the best sashimi and sushi available in Norway today (12/2002). Generous nice looking portions with very fresh and exclusive fish. E.g. Sashimi moriawase for NOK 180,- with approx 20 large, thick delicious pieces of fish + ginger, wasabi, salad and a rice sidedish. The tempura is also very nice, and so is both the miso soup and the sushi nigri. This place cost a little more, but is definitely worth every penny! The service is very good too, and so is the atmosphere. I have visited several times, and have always come out thinking that it is the best sushi place I've been to in Norway. "

Opened:Mon-Sat 10am-11pm, Sun 1pm-11pm
Review:"A friend of mine and myself have made a sport out of trying out every sushi-bar in town - and we always come back to this one. The nigiris are nice and big, the wasabi has a great consistency and the ginger is fresh and crunchy. And not to mention the Miso - it's the most tasteful Miso I've ever tasted. You get it free if you buy one of the sushi menu specials. The prices are pretty good for such quality, f.ex. six pieces of Nigiri and four Maki cost 99,- NOK (15$/10£). The service is attentive and nice, and if you fancy some more food, they've also got Vietnamese and Chinese dishes. "

Nippon Art

Name:Nippon Art
Address:Tordenskiolsgata 8, Oslo
Phone:(0047) 22414-107
Reviews:"A very nice restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere. Prices are higher than at Sushi Nam Kang, but you can expect better service and more sushi rolls. But at ´sushi happy hour´ (Mon-Fri 12.30 - 7pm and Sunday) you can have more for less (NOK 135,- for 10 rolls or NOK 90,- for 6 rolls and an appetizer). There´s also a sushibar for those who just drop in, since there aren´t so many tables available. Tip: Call first ! Possible to bump into Norwegian celebrities if you sit there long enough."
- Khai (k.t.nguyen@econ.uio.no) [March 30th 1998]
"Don't listen to the Atalla, he's the boss so of course he'd say that. I had gone to eat there and got really sick. I went to the doctor to find it was food poisoning. I went to talk to him about it and he says it can't be our food. I watched them while he walked a way and say cross contamination everywhere. The guy who does the raw tempura shrimp touches everything and never washes his hands. I never eat there again in this life or the next. "

Reviews:"Tampopo was a secret for two weeks. But after stunning reports in national newspapers the secret couldnt be kept any longer and resulted in friendly crowds trying to satisfy their lunchtime lusts with beautifully made Nigiri Sushis with Hokkigai, Clam,Whale,Tuna, Kamchatka and Codroe. The Japanese-Norwegian couple who runs Tampopo also make mouthwatering Nori Makis: plains with avocado and cucumber but also with codroe, clam and an unforgettable California Maki. Service is very friendly and efficient. You can sit down for a bite by the bar, but Tampopo is mainly a take-away."
- Monica Csango [June 22nd 2000]
"Worst sushi experience in Oslo, poor quality rice, poorly cut fish, even the wasabi is not of the proper consistency. I would not eat there again. "
