- Sonja Tiebor (stiebor@netscape.net) [April 3rd 2003]
"Friendly and accomodating staff and fresh, good-sized sushi - they sure don't skimp on their ingredients! What blew me away were their Thai dishes - I had this gorgeous spicy kingprawn dish and was a sucker for their tofu saté (crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside together with a killer peanutsauce). Also one of the cleanest restaurants I've come across: sparkly toilets, clean tables and cutlery and a cool atmosphere. Great combination restaurant: go there for the fresh and generous-sized sushi and try one of their Thai specialties to fill your stomach. "
- Merle [June 17th 2005]
"Now has a different name (a Thai name I can't remember). The restaurant still serves good-sized sushi though, which I thought was of fine quality especially for the prizes. The place has a bit of a take-away feel and a definite minus is that it has no license to serve alcohol. "

Japan Inn

- Sandra Rietveld (san_rietveld@hotmail.com) [June 15th 2001]
"I have lived in Japan and I love Japanese food. I have been to many Japanese restaurants in Amsterdam, but nothing comes close to Japan Inn price and quality wise. The food is good and it is pretty cheap. It is always busy and I would definitely recommend this small Japanese restaurant to everyone. Please do not take any notice to the review above. I have been going there for over 4 years now. It is a great restaurant! "
- A. Fenwick (fenwick22@hotmail.com) [July 3rd 2003]
"Please dont listen to the first comment, they must have got the wrong restaurant! Japan in is one of THE best sushi bars in Amsterdam , and iv seen them all. with food at low prices and alot of it this restaurant is certain to make you coming back for more. "

Phone:+31 (20) 6270607
Fax:+31 (20) 3305905
Opened:Tue - Sat: Noon - 8.00 pm
Review:" I had lunch there a couple of weeks ago with 3 colleagues. Yes, it is very small but we were fortunate enough to be in time to grab a table. We ordered things of our own and stuff to share. I had one Ebikyu hand roll and two deep fried shrimps in Japanese bread crumbs which were delicious! To share we had Tori teriyaki (fried chicken in ripe sweet soy sauce with chicken broth), Tori Karaage (deep fried chicken marinated in soy sauce, sake and ginger) and Ohitashi (blanched spinach with sesame seed). I really loved the authenticity of the whole place; two Japanese women (a small lady doing all the cooking and a girl serving us), the service and of course the excellent food! If you can't get a place to sit and eat, take it home instead. "

"Dear sir, thanks for your listings. It´s actually extremely up to date as well. I would like to recommend the restaurant An in Amsterdam. It´s extremely good value for money, nice service, but everyone must know that there is no liquor sold whatsoever. For me the food is the thing to go there. Personally I extremely like the Tempura menu"

Yoichi

Name:Yoichi
Address:Weteringschans 128, Amsterdam
Phone:(020) 622-6829
Fax:(020) 624-7753
Opened:6pm - 10.30pm
Reviews:"In a traditional amsterdam appartment house there are several rooms on two floors. Great service, superb menu, lots of japanese customers, quite expensive but worth it."
"First Japanese Restaurant in Amsterdam opened in 1972 named Toga. Since 1982 it is called Yoichi. Run by owner Mr. Yoichi Hara who lives in Amsterdam since 1972 and comes from Yokohama. Mr. Yoichi offered us a chopstick course during our dinner. The rooms of the restaurant have extremely high ceilings where some paintjob would help. There are three floors in a former private house with a first floor sushi bar and a secondfloor tatami room (no hole in the floor)with seating for 156 guests. Most waitresses wear kimonos, 60 % of the guests are Japanese. The sushi was a little warm and the rice a bit too sticky, but besides that the quality is great. A little extra at the side: If you reserve a table there will be a 25 cents refund on the table for the call."
- Carsten Kattau (Kattau@usa.net) [January 7th 1998]
"Good value for money. Excellent quality: the food and the service in a beautiful fin de siecle interior. "
- Wouter Meyers (w.meyers@freeler.nl) [January 9th 2003]
"Sadly, last year Mr. Hara Yoichi died of a heart attack and since the the restaurant has changed hands. The food, however is still as good as it used to be. Recommended. "

"I've gotten sick after eating here on two occasions. I wouldn't recommend it. "
- Julie [October 22nd 2002]
"I have been to Zushi Sushi every year since its opening and I have had a pleasant experience each time. Despite the fact that this is a kaitan (conveyor) style sushi bar it is much better than average. The fish is fresh, the prices are reasonable and they are happy to make a temaki (handroll) or any special request should you ask. The sake is exceptionally good, the miso soup is nicely flavored and the service is excellent. "
