Opened:Mon: 4pm - 9pm, Tue-Fri: Noon - 9pm, Sat: Noon - 5pm
Reviews:"Fresh fish at reasonable prices. Probably the best sushi in Cologne."
- Yoshi Kanabu (kanabusan@gmx.de) [July 11th 1999]
"Strange restaurant with sushibar where you can sit at the bar or some highchairs at tables. Unfortunately you can't look at the fish behind the bar because of a tinted glass. So you see the chefs working but can't see the fish (hope they don't have to hide something). They offer quite cheap sushi combos as well as a la carte. So so, the service is ok, but the atmosphere is uninviting. Drinks are served from a cooler like in a supermarket."
- THE SUSHI WORLD GUIDE [August 2nd 2000]
"The place is getting quite crowded in the evenings, also due to the take-away-service which seems to be flourishing. If you like having your sushi in a 'Kneipe' atmosphere you might feel well here. "
- K.G.(next1@gmx.de) [November 15th 2000]
"Of course our Sushi Bar doesn`t look like a traditional japanese Sushi restaurant. But you can find original high quality Sushi made by professional japanese Sushi Cooks. Visit our homepage and you can see how it looks like (www.sushi-club.de). We get our fish 3 times a week from the fish market in Paris (biggest in Europe) which makes sure that we offer absolute fresh fish. Since nearly 1 year we only use Bio Salmon which is 100% chemical free. Our Tuna (Bluefin)is 'Dolphin-safe' cought. Our Sea Urchin (Uni) is via air cargo fresh imported. We do our business because we love Sushi like you do. "

Phone:(0221) 510-1336
Fax:(0221) 510-1346
Opened:Mon - Sun: Sushi Bar from 11am- 10 pm
Reviews:"Actually a fishshop with a little sushi bar and take away. Great for lunch or an afternoon snack if you live around here. Cheap."
"Cheap? no way!! This shop is too dirty to serve any Sushi!! The smell of rotten fish disgusted me when I entered this place to see if the review of this site is right or wrong...anyhow, these asians (non-japanese) don´t seem to have much experience with japanese food - like the guests, eating this stuff...try and see what I am writing about."
- sushi_baka (sushi_baka@usa.net) [February 22nd 1999]
"I went once last year and never wanted to go back. The restaurant was dirty and the fish questionable - AVOID. "
- Syrrah ( syrrah@yahoo.com) [January 21st 2001]
"With the quite controversial reviews on this site, I would normally not have visited this restaurant. However, somebody whose opinion I normally value suggested to me that it is a great place to go, so I tried it out. While the ambience is certainly intriguing - this place could also be in a night market somewhere in Asia - the quality unfortunately was not consistent. The first time I went there, sushi was decent (while not great), but the second time I visited (this time with my family), the tunafish was actually far from fresh so that we did not finish it after eating a few bites. Unfortunately, the few bites that I had eaten were already enough to wreak havoc on my digestion that day, so it was not really a pleasant experience for me. I can not endorse this restaurant. "

Reviews:"Definitely number one in Germany, Top Ten of the World. The finest maguro you can imagine. Superb sushi, delicious tempura, very friendly service. Mr. Takusaburo Arakawa and his german wife are running this excellent place."
- THE SUSHI WORLD GUIDE
"Sashimi is absolutely disappointing! Poor quality, undefinable colour, small portion (looks like a small starter plate!) very expensive (41 DM for a small plate!) NO THANKS!"
- Kurt Lischer (lischer@datacomm.ch)
"Mr. Arakawa just created a few new rolls (KintaRoll, SabuRoll) and they serve great softshell crabs. Still excellent !"
- THE SUSHI WORLD GUIDE [August 1st 2000]
"Starters are tiny but delicious. Amazing Sushi, the maguro is indeed most memorable. Everything else is fine, too, and the service is the most attentive I ever encountered in a Japanese Restaurant. A real pleasure. "
- Michael Shohat (miky@shohat.com) [January 16th 2002]
"Tischreservierung über www.bookatable.de möglich (link siehe unten). Reserve a table via www.bookatable.de (see link)"

"It is like eating in a family restaurant. you never feel alone at kintaro. mrs arakawa takes care of all guests , helping the new ones with the menu , talking with the very big group of familiar guests who like to meet each other at night. the food is excellent, genuine japanese cuisine from the noodle soup til sushi and sashimi. kintaro is like a safe and strong rock in the steadily moving restaurant scene in cologne. just enter and enjoy the charm of this special restaurant. "
- weghmann (weghmann@gmx.de) [Mar 30th 2010]
"The restaurant interior has been refurbished in 2012 and the chefs keep up the high standards of japanese cuisine. "

Reviews:""
"Since beginning of 2001 they have a NEW MENU. The place is now run by a Japanese couple, though still supervised by the owners of Kintaro. The new menu offers more inventive cuisine like Nobu or Itsu. They offer tuna and sake tataki, tuna carpaccio with avocado, unagi, hamachi, uni and rolls like spicy tuna rolls and california rolls. For lunch they have a bentobox with a nive overview of their menu. It is a small but very excellent place with outstanding quality and very nice and attentive service. "
- SUSHI WORLD GUIDE (February 23rd 2001)
"I have been to most of the Sushi restaurants in Cologne and Momotaro is the one which has consistently provided an excellent all-round experience. The staff are exceedingly friendly, the food is delicious (particularly recommendable is the Gyokai Salada - sashimi salad) and it is always good value. "
- Gregory Schaad-Jackson (dongregorio@london.com) [January 7th 2003]
"Since beginning of 2005 the restaurant is independently operated by the Japanese couple and has no connection to the Kintaro anymore."

Fax:(0221) 240-0438
Opened:Mon-Sat: Noon - 10pm, Sun: 1pm -9pm
Reviews:"First kaiten (conveyor belt) restaurant in Cologne. It´s located in the basement of the so called WDR-Arkaden, a shopping complex close to the WDR (West German Radio and TV station). It faces the same problem as most of the kaiten restaurants do: How many turns did the fish do before you´ll eat it ?"
- THE SUSHI WORLD GUIDE CREW
"The prices are reasonable, but the sushi cuts are very thin, almost like carpaccio in Italy. That´s almost fraud."
- Christian (Christian.Tuebing@gmx.de) [March 15th 1999]
" This is my favorate Sushi place in Cologne because it is affordable and the quality is good. There may be other Sushi restaurants, which are slightly better, but at twice the price. Sushi No. 1 is a kaiten restaurant but you can order additional types of sushi which are typically not on the belt such as Hotategai, Uni, Yellowtail, Aaebi, Eeal, etc."

" For German sushi, this place is a real bargain. The Maguro is disappointing, but everything else is fine so this is a place even students can afford on a regular basis. "

Phone:(0221) 1206-2310
Opened:Mon-Fri: Noon-3pm,6pm-11pm, Sat: 6pm-11pm, Sundays/publ. holidays 1pm-11pm
Review:"Small but nice Kaiten (conveyor belt) restaurant. This is sometimes a bit of a disadvantage, but they have a very wide selection (about 70 different sushi and starters on their menu, most of them available daily). Fish was good and fresh when I went there. The owners are young and very friendly and will cater to your needs - if you do not see what your heart craves for, just check the menu, ask them and they will prepare what you want and place it on the conveyor (if the workload permits it). Daily from 18:00 to 23:00 they offer a very fair All-you-can-eat offer for EUR 24,90. Check the website for the menu and directions. "

"This low brow place is not much to look at, but it offers the best sushi in terms of quality and price in town. Very friendly service. "
- Syrrah (syrrah@yahoo.com) [January 21st 2001]
"The location of the former Delika Tokyo, which was closed for a while is now reopened as Sushi-Mi. Sushi-Mi used to be just a few metres away in a tiny place. Sushi-Mi does delivery and has several tables. The management has nothing to do with the former place."

"I saw the ad on the Sushi Circle homepage which said: on wednesday -29 DM( all you can eat !). Riding into downtown but ......sorry, it wasn't on Wednesday, it´s on Tuesday. The price is not 29,- but 27 DM.--Ups, but I´m hungry ,so I sat down and enjoyed...the Sushi was really fine and fresh. Even the price is ok, the service good and the rooms are clean. A place you can be! Now, my belly is full, my purse empty, but I appreciated the visit and I'll be back soon.........surely next Tuesdays! "
- Louis Cyphre (keenzick@gmx.de) [April 13th 2001]
"We visited the restaurant during the 'all you can eat' offer. The nigiri´s were ok. - not good but even not so bad. But the maki were awful - the cook had no practice in doing it (he isn´t from Asia). Also the rice fall apart. Summary: the Sushis ar not very authentic - you better visit another Restaurant. "

"A small, friendly place close to the city center. Reasonable pricing and good selection of sushi. Not top-league but quite good for a short lunchtime stop or after shopping. Love the retro look of the sushi-counter."
- Frank Niessen
"Korean owner, good Japanese cook, the food is really tasty and not expensive. The place is small and quiet."
- K.G. [June 25th 2000]
"Since Sweet Sushi has taken over the restaurant is an option for shoppers in this area. The menu offers lots of rolls with a fusion touch, and not necessarily japanese. They also offer thaisoups and curries. Ok for a lunch time break, but don't expect real japanse cuisine. Friendly and attentive service. "
