Reviews: | "Sushi Bar at the Arabella Grand Hotel with 35 seats." |
"Nice sushi place in the lobby of the Arabella hotel. Good sushi, acceptable prices (especially considering it is located in a hotel). When I was staying in the Arabella Hotel earlier, I enjoyed 2 things: 1) the ability to call 1t 21:30 and ask to have a nice bowl of Chirashi prepared and sent to my room 2) the great Japanese breakfast they are offering. On more than one occasion I had some wide-eyed Asian guests sitting at my table in the morning and wondering why on earth a Westerner would choose the more challenging Japanese specialties for breakfast. " I went yesterday, and the sushi was good. Not spectacular, but good. However, I was staggered when lunch ran 30 Euros for just me! I didn't read the menu closely enough, and pieces were served singly, rather than in pairs as I've always seen before. I'm sure the rest of the menu was more reasonable, but I won't go back. Way too expensive. "

Reviews: | "Once one of the best Japanese restaurants in Frankfurt, it became unfortunately average in food quality and very poor in service. The unskilled international staff does not fit to that what you expect under wellknown Japanese customer service quality. " |
- Nikolaus Ambrosi (ambrosi@arcormail.de) [March 5th 2001]
"One of my personal favourites. Food is not bad, service is certainly not perfect, because there is a lot of indifferent non-Japanese staff, but there is a large and varied menu and the food tastes 'real'. "

Located closely to the European Central Bank. Sometimes hard to get a table, but worth the visit! " |

"Fantastic choice of appetizers including the best Gyoza in town, unforgettable Ika-yaki (grilled squid) and the all-time classic Hotate-Butter (Coquilles St Jacques). Very authentic Japanese food in a very small restaurant, make sure to book in advance, especially during exhibitions / trade shows. Excellent sushi and sashimi, too, but Mikuni offers better value for money for those. Also offers a variety of Udon and Soba. "

"One of the BEST japanese restaurants I've ever been to. The waiters are VERY nice. The food is being cooked at your table. Make sure you reserve some seats in the evenings.Gorgeous !!! If you visit once, you will keep coming back. "
- Tommy (tommy79@directbox.com ) [October 25th 2001]
"Probably one of the best japanese restaurants in Germany. Excellent Sushi as starter, incredible Teppanyaki, made by a master who cares more for the food than for the show (which is not bad either...). If you are looking for Sushi only in Frankfurt City there is a small Sushi bar managed by the same people, there is a very small shop/bar/takeaway in the Friedberger Strasse, near the main shopping street 'Zeil'. They also received the FEINSCHMECKER Award 1999 and 2000/2001. They have a large variety of Sushis and soups. Usually it's all to-go but you can have a seat in the restaurant area as well. I highly recommend it because it's one of the best. " |

Reviews: | "One of the first Japanese restaurants in Frankfurt." |
"Best value for money when it comes to sushi in town. The quality is impeccable; the quantity sometimes breathtaking (quite literally if you dare - as you should - to put that large chunk of Tako in your mouth at once...). Mind you, they feed you large quantities of fish, unlike the "all-you-can-eat" outlets also mentioned on this page that fill you up with awfully sour rice balls of the size of a chicken egg, with a tiny pre-cut, shrink-wrapped and deep-frozen slice of fish on top. For a budget lunch, order the "Mittagssushi" at a very reasonable price (12.50 EUR if I remember correctly). If you're in for the full nine yards, order the Toku-Jo Shushi, the best on offer, which does actually vary dependent on the "catch of the day"! You always get a good variety of Nigiri (about 10-12 pieces) plus one Tekka-Maki. Standard nigiri include Sake, wonderful Toro, Hotate-gai and Hokki-gai; then you may find Ama-Ebi, Unagi, Hamachi, Suzuki, Tai, Aji, etc. Or just ! order à la carte and create your own mix (start with the saba-maki!!). The two sushi chefs don't talk much (unless you speak Japanese, that is), but they are real masters of their art. Sit at the bar to enjoy your sushi best or, for a bigger party, book the tatami-room to dine in style. Good variety of Sake (bottles) available as well as very nice starters, sashimi and main courses (try the saba-yaki or sake-yaki). Join me for my weekly lunch at Mikuni on every Saturday! "

Review: | " Conveyor belt sushi. Very fresh, I thought, as there was nothing made when I walked into the coffee shop next door at 11:00 that morning. Not a lot of variety, mostly California rolls and variations. Standard makis (cucumber, red pepper, tuna, salmon, 1 or 2 more), standard shrimp, salmon, tuna sushi pieces. Saw one tako. However, service was quick, everything was clean, and at 14.50 for all you can eat, you can certainly find something. " |

SuperKato Japanese Supermarket |
Name: | SuperKato Japanese Supermarket |
Address: | Kornmarkt 3, 60311 Frankfurt am Main |
Phone: | (069) 294-544 |
Review: | "Not really a restaurant, it is a Japanese Supermarket with a huge counter where daily a variety of hosomaki is offered for take-out or local consumption (on one of the 3 bistro tables). When I was there last (some 5 years ago) you could either queue up and order from the list or call in your order in advance and then try to yell your name at the sushi waiters behind the counter to get your prepared package handed over to you. Superkato used to be an absoulte insider tip a few years ago, as the quality and choice is great, and the price was even better. Unfortunately, I have read that they had a considerable price hike, but assuredly the place is still full of sushi lovers every day. " |

"This lovely (2 story) restaurant is perfect for the snack in between shopping and relaxation. Enjoying a nice view to Paul's Churche, some nice sushi's served (price: ok / quality: good). Most authentic, as their sushi bar offeres best view to the sushi-masters, preparing your dishes right away. Have fun! "

"Together with my girlfriend, I visited Sushi am Main quite frequently. In fact, here she became a Sushi addict. Now we live a little too far from Frankfurt, and during a recent visit we came here again. Well, we were a bit disappointed, it used to be better. Today, they do things that are actually not what I expect from a Sushi bar, for example, I dislike cheap Tuna from a can inside a roll. There are many japanese restaurants in Frankfurt and the area, there is no need to visit this one - not any more. "

"Ever wonder why there are no Japanese going to Sushi Circle...? I went there and was horribly shocked. "A jewel amongst the Japanese restaurant community - not only in Frankfurt, but in whole Germany! This blue collar, down to earth restaurant will give you the 100% shitamachi-feeling that you might experience anywhere off the beaten tracks in Japan. As delicious Japanese food as one could hope for: Ask for 'shun no aji' (seasonal specialities). What is generally true for any Japanese restaurant, cannot be overstressed in the case of the 'Tawaraya': Extremly helpful and at least twice the fun if you speak some Japanese. "
- Christian Maesing (cmaesing@web.de) [Sept 25th 2003]
"This is one of the best, but also most authentic restaurants in Frankfurt ('not beautiful but excellent in quality and pricing'). We were eating a plate of tuna and a mixed plate, both as sushi nigiri....the pricing was reasonable (18 Euro per dish) and the fish was absolutely fresh! Reservation is highly recommended. Have much fun in fine-sushi-dining... "
- Sebastian Stahl (Amin@Event-DJ.com) [Jan 4th 2004]
"Unfortunatelly, after a few more visits within 2004 and 2005 I must come to the final conclusion, quality of this nice place dropped...maki's are dry outter skin, nigiri isn't special anymore...no toro in house, frequently....welll, they must do something !!! "
