Besides sushi they serve a lot of delicious hot-pots like chanko-nabe. Its always busy, loud and hectic but the service and food is excellent."

"Great place for sushi with fast and friendly service, fine selection of sushi, reasonable price funny, old-fashioned setup reservations now possible."
- Frank Kaiser (frank.kaiser@tu-clausthal.de)
"Simply the best sushi in town. My favorite maki-zushis: shinko-maki (with sesame and aojiso - heavenly!) and negitoro-maki (although not constantly available). Also recommended: any donburi (e.g. tendon, kijidon etc.). Standard lunch menues are 8 EURO each and represent good value for money: Either fish or meat including two starters, miso-soup plus rice and o-cha (with the two latter tabehodai resp. nomihodai). Enjoy! "
- Christian Maesing (cmaesing@web.de) [Sept 25th 2003]
"Had dinner there. Sushi was good, but very expensive. Staff not friendly at all. Felt rushed like they didn't want our business. Was expecting Japanese sushi chef hospitality. With the wide choices of sushi altenatives in Dusseldorf we won't be going back. Food 8 atmosphere 1. "

Sushi comes in a very good quality, although it's not the best in town (competition is hard in so called Little Tokyo, which is around this area of Duesseldorf). Too bad they stopped serving small noodle soups; but still those side dishes like Kimuchi or Gomae match very well with the small range of sushi variantions. "

Opened:Noon - 2pm, 6.30pm - 10.30pm, Closed Mondays
Reviews:"Standard Japanese food in good quality. Reservation for tables necessary."
"My very favorite Japanese restaurant (whatever you order, it´s perfect!)"
- (makunouchi@hotmail.com) [June 25th 1998]
"During the last weeks, I had the possibility to not only visit Yabase, but also Kikaku and Hyuga that are both in Klosterstrasse, within walking distance. I ordered the same dish in all restaurants, chirashi (Io-Chirashi in case of Hyuga and Kikaku) in order to be able to compare the restaurants. This was very good, as it demonstrated to me just how good a restaurant Yabase really is. Do not get me wrong, both Kikaku and Hyuga serve excellent sushi that does not leave anything to be desired ... in my opinion, they just do not have the same 'special quality' that food at Yabase has. From the quality and taste of the fish (outstanding), the preparation of rice, tamago, and the home-made green tea ice crem, right down to the quality of the shiso leaves they use, this restaurant offers the best sushi I have so far eaten in Europe, and the second best I have eaten so far worldwide. What is my reference here? My experience is humble, but I think puts me in a position to distinguish a good from a bad sushi restaurant ... in the last 20 years, I have visited about 50 sushi restaurants in Europe (Austria, Germany, Holland, UK, Spain and Belgium), Asia (Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore) and the United States, out of which I visit about 20 on a regular basis. Very important ... if you go to Yabase, definitely reserve a table in advance. The Yabase is the only restaurant where I have been sent away because they did not even have a single place left to sit. "
- Andreas Thaler (Andythaler@gmx.net) [July 23rd 2007]
"I can only re-iterate that the Yabase is an incredible place to go when you are in Duesseldorf. (Even more so now that the smoking ban in restaurants is in effect). Finally had the possibility to also sample the uni(only available when in season), it was not cheap (7 EUR for one uni gunkan), but the quality and taste were absolutely amazing. "
- Andreas Thaler (Andythaler@gmx.net) [Nov 23rd 2008]
"I like japanese food and I went today with my husband to Yabase as I was told they give good Sushis. And although this was good we had quite a bad experience with the service and in particular with the owner. Today we asked for a degustation menu. It was good but we were astonished when we received the bill. First the price of the menu (45 Euro) was far too high for the quantity that was really small. Second, I asked in the beginning for water and they brought me a glass of water. I thought it was strange they didn't give me a bottle. In any case I was thirsty so I asked for two more glasses. In the bill they charged us 2 Euro for each glass, 6 Euro for three small glasses of water! We asked the owner how much a bottle of water would cost and he told us 4 Euro. We asked him why he had charged us so much for the glasses and why he didn't give us a bottle in first place and he was rude and didn't answer us correctly. So we were really frustrated when we left the restaurant. "
