Akashi Sushi

Name:Akashi Sushi
Address:Kaernterstr. 32-34 (Entrance in Fuehrichgasse 1), 1010 Wien/Vienna
Phone:(01) 513-7003
Opened:daily: 11am - 11.30pm
Reviews:"They serve excellent sushi, sashimi and they also have yaki gyouza, tempura, different kinds of bento (includes bulgogi, tori-teriyaki, salmon-teriyaki, tuna-teriyaki), tonkatsu, udon, ramen, yaki-soba and donburi and you can also have everything for takeaway (you should call in advance, so you don´t need to wait). The restaurant is very small (3 tables for 4 persons each, one table for 2 persons and 5 seats at the sushi counter), but the personell is very friendly and helps you to find out what you could try, if you´ve never eaten sushi before. The prices are also very moderate. Note that bento are only served for lunch! By the way, the entrance in Fuehrichgasse is the same entrance with the pizzeria next door, so don´t get mixed up!"
- Nina Kramlinger (manfred.kramlinger@telekabel.at) [March 9th 1998]
"The sushi there is absolutly tasteless. The fish they but on the nigiri sushi is from a deep freezed supermarked plastik tray. (I saw that while sitting on the counter). The maki must have been made days in advance and thats how they tasted. The worst and not even the cheapest place for sushi in Vienna."
- Stibi (stibitzf@avl.com) [June 25th 2000]
" Authentic Japanese Cuisine, reasonable priced. "
- Kristin Allwinger [December 2nd 2001]

The restaurant might not look very nice, but the sushi there is very good. Fresh fish, nice service and a chef who knows how to make excellent futo maki. Very good value for your money."

A good selection of raw fish, meat and veggies is offered buffet style to choose from, the prepared food will be served to your table. Take care: if you are not able to finish your plate, you will be charged a penalty of around US$ 5.-"

Reviews:"Small friendly sushi bar with well-trained chefs. Good range of vegetarian sushi, and the fish is very fresh."
- Paul Gillingwater (P.Gillingwater@iaea.org) [July 3rd 1997]
"Very fresh fish, natto is available. Try the Gyoza! Rather smallish, reservation recommended. Toko-Ri also has two other restaurants: one on Naschmarkt and one in the city center. "
- Joerg Schaeffer (usenet.joergschaeffer@gmx.at) [August 13th 2000]
"Arguably one of the best sushi places in Vienna, run by Koreans, but with Japanese sushi masters. Grown from a 5-people-insider tip to a 3-restaurant-cum-fish-shop empire in a few years. At lunch, they offer a range of bento boxes with sushi, sashimi and teppanyaki at moderate prices (EUR 8 - 11). Reserve in advance or prepare to wait a moment. In the evening, try the 'plate-sushi' (EUR 35) for 2 people with all the sushi and sashimi traits they have to offer. Another specialty you should not miss is the fish-maki without rice, a delicious composition of tuna, salmon, kani and avocado wrapped in nori. "
- Andreas Thaler (Andythaler@gmx.net) [April 19th 2001]
"Don't be timid ... insist on getting the 'Fish Maki without rice' ... although it has not been on the menu for quite some years now. The sushi masters still know how to do it (although the waitress might not) and might even take you for an old-timer :-) "

Patio tables available during the summer months. Apart from Sushi, try the different bento boxes with teriyaki or tempura."
- Joerg Schaeffer (usenet.joergschaeffer@gmx.at) [August 13th 2000]
"It´s always great to buy sushi of a high quality at a very good price for take away! 300 ATS for 2 people ain´t much... "

- Edward Rosner (edward@rosner.at) [January 31st 1998]
"You better call it ´Chinese-Run-Away-Sushi´. Run away as fast as you possibly can. The menu offers incredible 3 different kinds of sushis (if you would even call that sushi: deep-frozen and absolutely tasteless). Sorry, nice try, but stick to Wan-Tan and springrolls..."

"The food is of poor quality and the atmosphere is very Fast Food like. Better avoid this place."

Tokyo Running...(2)

Name:Tokyo Running Sushi
Address:Doeblinger Hauptstr. 50, 1190 Wien/Vienna
Phone:01) 367-6899
Opened:noon - 3pm, 6pm - 11pm
Reviews:"One of the fastest and cheapest sushi restaurants, serving sushis on a conveyor belt."
- Edward Rosner (edward@rosner.at) [January 31st 1998]
"If you want upscale Japanese there are scant options in Vienna; it is a landlocked country. But, for quick, clean, tasty and inexpensive, I like Running Sushi in the 19th district. The giant conveyor-belt with tons of choices, the chipped melmac plates (circa 1968) and the cheapie chairs make me feel like I am in university again. The prices are like student prices, too. I also like the staff who may be all family members--same folks always there whenever I come--always friendly and working hard. "

Unkai

Name:Unkai
Address:ANA Grand Hotel Wien, 1. Bezirk K, Wien/Vienna
Phone:(01) 51580-9110
Reviews:"Saturday brunch for 220 austrian shillings, good quality."
"One of the top three Sushi Restaurants in Vienna, definitely the most stylish setting for hundreds of miles. Top quality for top prices. But - if you are a Sushi lover, you have to eat there while in Vienna. Try the weekend brunch, prices are more reasonable and the Sushi has the same excellent quality."
