Phone:+61396545688
Fax:+61396545655
Reviews:"Mostly ramen, donburi and an extensive list of cold and hot sake, as well as good Japanese beer. Quick service, cool decor and very, VERY tasty ramen with generous servings! Worth a second trip! "
- Veronica Liew (veronique59@lycos.com) [Nov 6th 2003]
"Chocolate Buddha is the worst restaurant I've been to in Melbourne. The service is not just bad, it's non-existent. We ordered Jenmai sake and it came out boiling hot. Anybody who knows anything about the particular sake we were ordering, would know that this is not the correct way to serve it. Ever. We asked the waitress if we could have it replaced with a cold one, as there must have been some mistake, but they said we'd have to pay for the hot sake regardless, 'because we've already poured it'. So it was obviously our mistake! It's always good to blame the customer, isn't it? The manager then came out to tell us why we had to pay (apparently it's listed on the menu as 'warm' but it was in 2pt. font). Why the manager would bother coming over to our table just to explain why he could not drop the charge for the hot sake--warning, it's a good one: 'it's not our policy'--is anyone's guess. Look out melbournites and tourists, if you want to be treated like Johnnie Howard's mob, this is the place for you. We asked him if he thought he was providing good service. He continued to defend his policy, like it was a federal law. When we got the bill, they'd included not only the hot sake, but the cold one that we never received. We complained again, but the manager was so angry he threw our change back at us. So, not only is the food mediocre, but the manager and his bevy of snivelling, cheap staff will ensure you have a miserable time. Do not go anywhere near this place. No-one should have to pay for bad service these days. It's just not on. "

"Just like to add that I too had a poor, cramped and poorly serviced meal. The ramen was cold and the noodles were chewy. Far from the quality of noodles in Japan. It tasted closer to Japanese 'instant' noodles. Extremely over-priced for what it is. I know staff are probably under paid and overworked, but poor service starts at the top. "

"I thought the staff at chocolate buddha were full of it.I asked for a glass of water that took 25 minutes to arrive and when it did it tasted like the yarra, I suppose it took her 25 minutes to walk down to the yarra to get it.When I complained she said well its tap water you can buy bottled water for 5 dollars. Then the food tasted crap as the put less effort into because I complained about the water and the lenght of time it took to draw it from the yarra. Daimonji CLOSED !

Name:Daimonji CLOSED !
Address:Daimaru, Level 3, La Trobe St., Melbourne Central, 3000, Australia
Phone:+61/3/9660-6500
Opened:Mon-Sat: Lunch and dinner, Closed Sundays
Review:"Like many sushi fans, we think Daimonji does it best in Melbourne. But there´s no consensus - others rate Kenzan number one. Our theory is that people remain loyal to whichever one they visit first. We started at Daimonji. It´s in Melbourne´s CBD in a shopping complex which includes Japanese department store Daimaru. Daimonji is manically busy at lunch so that´s not the best time to be ordering sushi a la carte. Your best option is one of their lunch specials. We recommend grilled eel on rice - Daimonji´s is the best we´ve ever eaten. The restaurant is less busy at night early in the week so this is the ideal time to go for blow-your-mind sushi and snacky appetisers. Daimonji has an excellent, ever-changing range of little cooked dishes - things like mackerel paste wrapped in shiso leaves and deep fried, grilled pike with spicy cod roe and seared-salmon sashimi salad. Daimonji´s sushi sets are also top quality at both lunch and dinner but its sushi a la carte is truly exceptional. Tell Henry-san or Mr Yamakoshi how much you like sushi, how much you want to spend and they´ll make your meal extra special. Enjoy! "
